contribution to their community?

The Bridging Healthcare Needs Award is to recognize nurse practitioners in the state of California who are acting as a catalyst for positive change in the healthcare system, and who demonstrate the value nurse practitioners are providing to patients. All California Nurse Practitioners are eligible to receive this award and CANP membership is not a requirement.

Patricia Gahagan, a Nurse Practitioner from Vallejo, California, was our inaugural winner at the 31st Annual Conference in San Diego March 7, 2008. Patricia identified a need in her city for teen pregnancy education as Vallejo has the highest teen birth rate in the Bay Area. Patricia worked with her employer Kaiser Permanente to establish a health center at a local high school.

“Patricia Gahagan is the inaugural winner of the ‘Bridging Healthcare Needs Award’ because of her tremendous achievements and dedication to patients and colleagues,” CANP President Theresa Brown, NP said.  “Nurse practitioners throughout California deliver the highest standards of professionalism and patient care, and Patricia personifies excellence.  We are proud to honor her just as she honors our profession.”
